Two examples come to mind ...both from the TV series, Little House on the Prairie.

And it is not just the persons themselves, but the families who adopted them ...and the expectations that go along with the different approaches of family life.

One example, is Albert, who was adopted by the Ingalls family.

The other example, is Nancy, who was adopted by the Olsen family.

Let me list a few characteristics of Albert first:

  • Grateful for the adoption
  • Wanting to please his adoptive father
  • Generally polite and mannerly
  • Hard worker
  • Willing to admit wrongdoing
Now, here are a few characteristics of Nancy:
  • Feel she's had a difficult start in life, and is owed a comfortable life
  • Wanting to please self
  • Not polite and mannerly
  • Tries to get out of any work
  • When confronted about a wrong, she says, "You just hate me!"
